Introduction to Parent and Child fostering (IPCancr)

Description
[This course will take you about 2hr to complete.]

As a carer, there are a number of types of fostering that you could do, and one of these is called Parent and Child fostering. This is when a mother and/or father and their new baby or young child come into the care of a Parent & Child carer, where they can learn, in a safe environment, how to look after their child by themselves. These parents, often very young, are vulnerable, and require support for themselves, as well as for their new child.

This course is designed to give you an introduction to Parent and Child fostering, learn about it, and help you assess if this is a type of fostering you would be interested in. Foster carers who wish to work as a Parent and Child carer will need to go through an additional assessment.

Please note, whilst we will walk you through what to expect with Parent & Child fostering, this course is not designed to certify you for this type of fostering.

In this course you will learn about:
- What caring for a parent and their child involves
- How it differs from other kinds of fostering
- The importance of keeping records
- Appearing in court
- How to support the parent and child
- How to become a Parent and Child foster carer
